Event Date :- Makam Padayani : 20, 21 Sep,2006 Pooram Padayani : 21 Sep,2004 Venue: Palli Bhagavathy Temple, Neelamperoor, Kottayam. The Palli Bhagavathy Temple, Neelamperoor has a history of about 1000 years. The Patayani festival at the temple is characterized by 'Thothakali', a rhythmic dance in accordance with songs from the folklore and the beating of the drums. Devotees arrange themselves around a big fire at the centre, dancing and twirling small clothes in an artistic pattern. Spectators from different parts of the country throng to the place to see this rare artistic form. The most brilliant spectacle is the display of the 'Big Swan', which is about 45 feet high. Other swans and fully decorated effigies enhance the beauty of the scene. The Patayani Festival falls on September 14th this year. Getting there: Nearest railway station: Kottayam, about 16 kms. Nearest Airport: Cochin International Airport, about 76 kms from Kottayam. Neelampeeror Pooram Padayani can be termed as Kerala's greatest Eco friendly festival. The materials used for creating effigies of the festival are natural. |
